An institution in its own right!

Each year, nearly 40,000 people crowd into the butcher's street, which finds its origins for a day. A festive occasion to share a part of the history of Limoges but also a moment very friendly!

The brotherhood will be held in the rue de la Boucherie, on the place Saint-Aurélien and the place de la Barreyrette.

La Frairie des Petits Ventres was created in 1973 by the association of Old Limoges to save the picturesque neighborhood of La Boucherie from destruction. The event takes place every year on third Friday in October and commemorates the memory of the guild of butchers of Limoges, once very powerful.

The 2023 edition

The inauguration by the mayor will take place at 18 h. At the same time, the statue of Notre-Dame-de-Pitié also known as Our Lady of the Small Bellies, is carried in procession, as a reminder of the tradition of ladies butchers of the rue de la Boucherie, which, in the 15th century, celebrated the Virgin under this name on September XNUMX: it was on this date that the manufacture of tripe products began again, once the summer heat had passed.

The big meeting for gourmands

Your taste buds will thank you! Among the products presented are little bellies which gave their name to the event, these are lamb stomachs stuffed with lambs feet. It is also possible to taste a range of traditional Limougeauds dishes such as love affairs or Girot and even our clafoutis Limousin winter (the flognarde) for the “sweet” team, without forgetting the delicious chestnut fondant. Meat lovers will find the great classics: andouillettes, andouillettes, black puddings, white puddings, kidneys, tripe... As for drinks, don't miss the Apple juice, a pure local product that is essential to taste to fully get into the atmosphere.

Our favorite places around the butcher district

The Central Halls

Built between 1885 and 1889, the central halls of Limoges are a very fine example of late 100th century architecture. The metal frame structure with triangulated shapes was designed by two engineers, students of the techniques of Eiffel, Levesque and Pesce. There are two typical restaurants there, where you have lunch on large tables, elbow to elbow and beautiful displays of XNUMX% local products.
