In the heart of Limoges, a timeless district nestles a stone's throw from the covered market. On the menu: picturesque heritage, good restaurants, artisan shops, bohemian cafes... No doubt, it smells like a gourmet walk that flatters our taste buds and our curiosity.

A bit of history: head to the Saint-Aurélien chapel
A medieval marvel enhanced by its Baroque decor . The masterpieces begin even before you step inside. There, in the charming, human-scale central square of the neighborhood, the lovely building boasts a bell tower covered in chestnut shingles. A cross carved in soft stone and a Calvary scene recall the devotion of the neighborhood's historical inhabitants, generations of butcher families . It was this community, so essential to supplying an entire town, that settled here centuries ago.
All the houses were inhabited by people of the trade. The interior of the chapel holds many beauties: an altarpiece housing the relic of the patron saint Aurelian , ex-votos plastered on the walls, remarkable sculptures including the famous group "The Child with the Kidney".

To understand life in bygone days, a museum space, the Maison de la Boucherie (Butcher's House) at number 36 on the street, is open in the summer or by reservation at the Tourist Office the rest of the year. Visitors enter rooms preserved in their original state, complete with utensils and personal belongings. From the shop to the attic, passing through the slaughterhouse, they step back in time. Fascinating.
Picturesque and modern: the lively Boucherie district.
Once out of there, you should stroll through the alleyways, find the shaded and discreet Place Barreyrette , admire the countless half-timbered houses, scrutinize the sculpted, upright stones.

For a drink or a bite rue de la Boucherie
Each shopfront is more beautiful than the last; don't miss the bookseller's, which is one of the most photographed. Further up the street, you'll see the fabulous Central Market, a Baltard-style structure with 368 porcelain panels. It's a promise of exquisite taste . It's also a glimpse into the heart of Limoges: the restaurants in the Boucherie district are renowned, the bars are always bustling with lively discussions, and there's even a restaurant-grocery store where you can eat locally.
