The Texonnieras racecourse, located on the outskirts of Limoges, is one of the oldest in France. Created in 1821 under the leadership of the director of the Haras de Pompadour, it includes a 2000 m grass track for galloping, a 1300 m sand track for trotting, and 19th-century covered stands. As early as 1808, horse racing meetings were organized in Limousin, marking the beginning of a rich tradition in Couzeix, where many prestigious stables were established. A stallion depot, established on the orders of Napoleon I, housed Arabian horses and Tuscan donkeys. Renovated in the 1970s, the racecourse is now managed by the Société Sportive Hippodrome Limoges-Texonnieras and offers several events and three major races each year.
