From August 15 to 18, immerse yourself in the history of the Liberation of France in 1944 during a symbolic celebration. On the program: reconstruction of the daily life of the liberators, exhibition of period equipment, popular ball in historical dress and park of old vehicles. History enthusiasts and curious people, don't miss this tribute to the French resistance and the allied troops, who liberated our territory 80 years ago.

Remember the summer of 1944

80 years ago one of the most important events in our history took place: the Liberation of France by the Resistance and the Allied forces during the summer of 44. To pay tribute to these men who fought for our country , associations Formerly Historical Animations et MVCG France-MVCG Dordogne, in collaboration with the towns of Limoges and Couzeix, organize a historic meeting of four days. This event brings together all history enthusiasts with a common goal: to raise awareness of the efforts and sacrifices of the allied troops and the French forces of the interior, who made it possible to liberate many French people from the German oppressor.

4 days of activities around this historic anniversary

Le 15 August, afternoon and evening at Limoges promises to be festive and full of activities. The afternoon will begin with a big parade of vehicles, leaving from Couzeix to go to Limoges, with a static exhibition in front, there St. Stephen's Cathedral. You can also enjoy the richness of Resistance Museum partner of the event which will be open free to all.

The evening will continue on the cathedral square with a hoedown. Participants will be able to learn about dances from the 40s thanks to the Lindy'Lim. The famous bagpipe player, Joanne McIVER, will bring an international touch, while the Satin Doll Sisters will revisit the great American standards of the 40s with their captivating voices.

Du August 16 to 18, 9:30 a.m. to 19:30 p.m., go to the site of the former military grounds of Mas de l'Age à Couzeix. You will discover exhibitions of military, civil and medical equipment, as well as displays representing the Resistance, Free France et the allied armies. Many contemporary vehicles at the Second World War will also be exhibited, even offering the possibility of making baptisms in a vintage vehicle. Various activities will enrich these days.

Entrance to the Mas de l'Age site is 3 euros per person (free for children under 16 years old). A on-site catering will allow you to fully enjoy the day.

The program in brief

Thursday August 15 in Limoges

  • Afternoon : Vehicle parade from Couzeix to Limoges, exhibition at the cathedral, and free access to the Resistance Museum.
  • Evening : Popular ball at the cathedral with 40s dances by Lindy'Lim, performance by Joanne McIVER on bagpipes and concert by the Satin Doll Sisters.

Thursday August 15 and Friday August 16

Free entry to the Resistance Museum (9 a.m. to 18 p.m.). Several activities are offered at this
occasion :
– Free visit to the temporary exhibition Liberation of Limoges. August 21, 1944 (9h-18h)
– Treasure hunt: help the Allies liberate the country! From 8 to 12 years old (14 p.m. to 18 p.m.).
– Discover objects to the glory of the Allies exceptionally taken out of the museum’s reserves (14 p.m. – 18 p.m.)

Friday, August 16

Still on the Mas de l'Âge camp, children from the leisure centers of Limoges and Couzeix come. 80 Liberty shrubs accompanied by their diplomas will be offered to the children.

Saturday, August 17

At 10 a.m. at the Champ de Juillet, come take tours of vintage military and civilian vehicles in the city center of Limoges

From Friday 16 to Sunday 18 August at Mas de l'Age in Couzeix

From 9:30 am to 19:30 pm : Military and civilian exhibitions, historical displays, vehicles from the Second World War, baptisms in vintage vehicles, various activities and on-site catering; Entrance: €3 (free for children under 16 years old).
