This year, to celebrate the centenary of the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts, Limoges, the capital of porcelain and ceramic arts, becomes the capital of Art Deco. For six months, museums and iconic landmarks come alive with a variety of events: the exhibitions “Making It Modern! 1925, Limoges Art Deco” at the Museum of Fine Arts and “Limoges Art Deco 1925/2025” at the Four des Casseaux kiln, workshops and demonstrations at the Orangerie Pavilion, and guided tours of the City of Art and History focusing on Art Deco architecture. THEInternational Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts The 1925 Paris exhibition was a major artistic event in France and worldwide due to its ambition and innovation. It also enjoyed immense popular and commercial success and contributed to the renown of the art deco style and French excellence in the decorative arts. On this occasion, Limoges and Limousin were represented by their pavilion showcasing their emblematic skills (porcelain, enamels, stained glass, gloves and tapestries) and demonstrating the city's importance in the development of Art Deco.

“Be Modern! 1925, Limoges Art Deco”

Worn by historian Jean-Marc Ferrer, The exhibition recounts how artists made 1925 a pivotal moment in decorative arts in Limoges and the Limousin region. More 300 works present the Limoges pavilion in all its aspects: architecture, interior design, porcelain, enamel, gloves, Aubusson tapestries… The watchword “Doing it Modern” shows how Limoges became a world capital of decorative modernity in the Roaring Twenties.

“Crossfire – Modern Know-How”
Museum of Fine Arts
The exhibition “Crossfire" presented last October at the Galerie des Hospices, continues until March 2026 at the Museum of Fine Arts. There you can discover creations in stained glass, ceramics and enamel from six fire artists (Studio Outrage, Soah Kim, Shuka Kohei, Mary Lucking, Tadas Deksnys and ArtisLux) echoing the exhibition “"Do it modern." They explore, each in their own way, what it means to "be modern" in 2025.

“Playing with fire – Modern know-how”
Bishop's Garden, Orangery Pavilion
Right next to the Museum of Fine Arts, the Orangerie Pavilion will be dedicated to workshops, demonstrations and meetings focused on know-howIn partnership with the UIMM School of Arts and Crafts, the Mas Jambost high school, the ENSAD (National School of Decorative Arts), and various professionals, "spotlights" will highlight artists and craftspeople working in the ceramic arts. Students in the CAP (Vocational Certificate) program for Enameling Art will present works created with the artist Natacha Baluteau.

Through this exhibition, the Casseaux Oven reveals nearly 200 remarkable piecesThese Art Deco treasures bring back into the spotlight manufacturers who had fallen into oblivion and remind us the essential role of the porcelain makers of Limoges among the major artistic and cultural figures of the 20th century. They also open up new perspectives for contemporary creation in the face of the challenges of the 21st century.
