A basketball club, an extraordinary history and a great track record
Created in 1929, and after around fifty years spent in local and regional championships and lower national divisions, Cercle Saint-Pierre or CSP reached the first division of the French championship in 1978. It won its first french cup in 1982, as well as, the same year, his first European title, the Korac cup. He becomes champion of France, for the first time in its history the following year, in 1983.
In 1988, he won the Pro-A championship, organized for the first time by the national basketball league. The same year, he strengthened his European record by winning the cup of cups. On April 15, 1993, it became the first French team sports club to win a European Cup champion clubs, all disciplines combined, before being joined, in May of the same year, by Olympique de Marseille in football.
The legend was born and made the pride of his city. On its track record, the Limoges CSP has eleven French championship titles (the last one dating from 2015) and six French Cups. He is, with FA Mulhouse and ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, theone of the three teams crowned French champions for three consecutive years and the only one to have been twice three years in a row from 1983 to 1985, from 1988 to 1990.
With 5 European trophies, the Limoges CSP is the second French team sports club all disciplines combined to the most important European prize list. Cercle Saint-Pierre is one of the rare European teams, all disciplines combined, to be crowned in all the European events of their sport.
The temple and its public
The CSP evolves at the Palais des Sports de Beaublanc, seat of the first French All-star Game in 1987 and a veritable cauldron on match nights thanks to the fervor of the public and in particular of the supporters' clubs (Les Phoenix, Eagles, to Ultras Green and Circle of Enthusiasts). Basketball fever in Limoges has never evaporated, even during the relegations during the 2000 seasons. The public has always been present, even breaking the attendance record for a NM1 match with more than 6 spectators. Extremely chauvinistic and demanding, the spectators who make it up, fill the hall with songs and cheers, sometimes virulent but always good-natured. This atmosphere is known to be one of the most impressive in France… and even in Europe!
