Cathédrale Saint-Etienne

Begun in 1273, this Gothic building was completed at the end of the 2005th century, ie six centuries of construction. The flamboyant Gothic style Saint-Jean portal is particularly magnified under night lighting. Inside is a very richly decorated rood screen in the Renaissance style. The building remains one of the rare great Gothic monuments in the south of the Loire. Following an excavation campaign in the summer of XNUMX, an exceptional baptistery, one of the largest in France, was discovered at the foot of the cathedral. Monument.
Cathedral built in granite. Known as one of the most beautiful ogival cathedrals in the south of France; first religious building in the 1169rd century built by Saint-Martial, then basilica dedicated to Saint-Etienne in the XNUMXth century; Romanesque cathedral in the XNUMXth century where Richard the Lionheart was confirmed Duke of Aquitaine in XNUMX.
