Casseaux Kiln Museum

Between social history, know-how and modernity

Site listed historical monument, Casseaux Furnace Museum invites to delve into the history of the industry Limoges porcelain and the life of fire workers. The museum takes its name from an old oven dating from the XNUMXth century which has been carefully restored to preserve its authenticity, emblem of the city on the banks of Vienna. Passing through its doors means being transported back in time and discovering the secrets fire arts, of cooking, the precise gestures of the craftsmen and the importance of the traditional know-how transmitted from generation to generation. Each year a exposure temporary presents very beautiful pieces from private collections, classic and/or contemporary works, archives...retracing the great porcelain adventure.

They were day laborers in the kaolin quarries, workers in factories and factories… They are students and artists at the National School of Decorative Arts in Limoges… All the "Women of fire" are in the spotlight this summer at the Musée du Four des Casseaux.
In addition to fascinating archival photographs, the exhibition presents many new creations: from the first beautiful pieces of porcelain signed by women in the 19th century to the great names of decorative arts from the beginning of the 20e, like Suzanne Lalique or Marie Bracquemond. Nine contemporary artists complete this strong social and artistic frieze: Juli About, Matali Crasset, Julie Decubber, Lorraine Garnier, Anna Haillot, Kamila Majcher, Jessica Lajard, Mathilde Sauce, Kartini Thomas.

for the 160th anniversary of the Bernardaud Porcelain House
Expo from June 21 to October 2, 2023

The public is invited to discover, through an original film and a selection of iconic pieces, the transmission of know-how from generation to generation as well as the close relations that the porcelain factory maintains with contemporary artists.

2nd Time: Exhibition from July 5 to December 18 2023

On the occasion of the anniversary of the Center for Research on the Arts of Fire and Earth, the latter invests the permanent course of the museum at the heart of its walls & collections. He exhibits recent creations there and brings out the link between works, from the most classic to the most contemporary, with the participation of 8 artist-designers. For the occasion, the museum is offering a unique guided tour.

For those who want to travel even further through matter, get their hands dirty on the occasion of a workshop or visit the rich permanent collections of the museum.

The Bernardaud Foundation

porcelain & ceramic:
materials and media for artistic expression

La Bernardaud Foundation offers a new perspective to porcelain as a medium forartistic expression. Besides his exposure annual exhibition of contemporary ceramics., in the workshops of the factory built in 1863, discover a complete tour: the history of porcelain house, Porcelain, of its different manufacturing steps, from raw material to finished product. A real demonstration of their know-how: from modeling to decoration, including enameling and so many unsuspected stages. The Foundation lifts the veil on the international reputation of Limoges through collaborations with great artists and tables from all over the world. Also on site, a Book prestige and that of second choice at a lower price.

1400°C or when the material reveals itself... The only ceramic to be able to withstand such a firing temperature, it is at 1400°C that the Porcelain expresses all its technical, aesthetic, finesse and translucency capabilities.
This new exposure marks 20 years during which the Foundation has represented art in all its forms and materials: more than 250 artists welcomed, thousands of works exhibited in sandstone, earthenware, terracotta...

In 2023, it presents works by 11 renowned artists who push the limits of porcelain and explore new forms of expression to question the relationship of Man to his carnal envelope. Of sculptures surprising, art installations and unique pieces bear witness to the talent and audacity of the creators. An artistic universe where ancestral craftsmanship meet innovation, where porcelain reinvents itself to become a true work ofcontemporary art.
