Take to the skies in the Monts d'Ambazac

The Ambazac Mountains are located north-east of Limoges and are full of rocky chaos, small heritage sites (low walls, good fountains, etc.) and unique natural sites such as the Tourbière des Dauges nature reserve.

Stones and legends

Whether they are perched on the heights of our small mountains, hidden deep in our undergrowth or nestled at the edge of our streams, they are waiting for you, silent… or almost! Dolmen, menhir, rocky chaos... These imposing ladies will bewitch you!

Our favorite to gain height

The loose stone at La Jonchère Saint Maurice

This place is one of the most beautiful views of Limousin. It is a gigantic rocky chaos perched at 650m above sea level from where the gaze stretches as far as the eye can see at more than 50 km. We see, 300 m below, the village of La Jonchere-Saint-Maurice.

Treasures of the Order of Grandmont

Located 28 kilometers from Limoges, in the town of Saint Sylvester, the village of Grandmont is nestled in the heart of the Monts d'Ambazac, at the foot of the Puy de Sauvagnac, which culminates at 702 meters. Little typical village of Limousin which knew how to keep the character of its old houses in beautiful granite stones and which lets guess its historical interest only to the curious visitor. For seven centuries, Grandmont was the center of a prestigious religious order and a radiant abbey, now dismantled. Treasures still visible today remain today: Shrines, busts and reliquary arms or even dalmatic.

Our favorite to fill up on history

The reliquary hunt of Saint-Etienne du Muret

This XNUMXth century chest preserves the relics of Saint Macaire and Saint Etienne de Muret. It is visible in the parish church of Saint-Antoine, in a window, under close surveillance. The reliquary is known worldwide for its being a witness of limousine goldsmithery and the influence of Catholicism in the Middle Ages. She has traveled to prestigious museums, the latest to date, the MET, in New York!

Unique natural sites from the ground to the peaks

The Ambazac mountains offer a range of preserved natural sites where the visitor can cultivate his curiosity. Discovery and nature circuits will guide you through the sandstone moors and majestic trees.

Our favorites to fill up with chlorophyll

The Dauges peat bog

The Dauges peat bog is a depression of 3 million years. Today classified as a reserve national park of 200 ha, a discovery circuit allows you to meet a flora and fauna remarkable: nearly 300 species of butterflies, more than 200 species of beetles, many species of birds (black kite, booted eagle or Saint Martin's harrier), rare mosses and lichens, and very interesting plants such as ivy leaf bellflower, sundew, etc.

La Jonchere arboretum

In this real green who is one of oldest in France and which today extends over 70 ha, the Office National des Forêts has identified many remarkable trees. A La Jonchere arboretum, thuyas and giant sequoias, handkerchief trees, incense cedars, California nutmeg trees, bald cypresses… contribute to the plant and heritage influence of this exceptional natural site. This enchanting place, conducive to walking and daydreaming, can be visited freely in all seasons.
